About Dalat Elephant Waterfall 

Located about 25 km southwest of Da Lat city center, Elephant Waterfall, also known as Lien He Lowa Waterfall, is one of his three largest waterfalls in the Central Highlands. The Legend of the Elephant waterfalls

According to the elders, long ago, the village chief of Jo Bien had a beautiful daughter. Every time she sings, the flowers bloom, the forest leaves stop rustling, the birds chirp, and you hear her voice. She fell in love with the  son of the chief of the neighboring village. He is handsome, smart, insightful, and brave enough to sacrifice himself for a greater cause. They fell in love and vowed to marry. But  one day the young man had to defeat an enemy to protect his village. But  years passed without  him returning. 

She painfully finds the abandoned mountain where they once agreed to meet. She sang earnestly and mournfully, hoping that he would hear  and return to her place of origin. Then the birds wanted to touch their sincerity. They flew in all directions looking for news of him.Then tell her that he died in battle and will never come back.In extreme pain she kept singing until she fell down in exhaustion and got up. lost. 

Even a herd of forest elephants that have  long listened to song have  turned into mute stones. One day, a huge explosion shook the sky and the earth, splitting the deserted mountain  in two and crumbling horizontally into a large waterfall, from which white water flowed down into a corner of the sky. In memory of this sad story, the Kho aboriginal people  named the waterfall Lien Roua Joy Bien (Elephant Waterfall Petrified by Love).

Where is Elephant Waterfall Dalat?

The Elephant Waterfall Tourist Area is located in Nam Van Town, Lam Ha District, Lam Dong Province. Despite being a tourist attraction in the city, Elephant Waterfall still retains its majestic, wild and dreamlike character. 

In 2001, Dalat Elephant Waterfall was designated as a national scenic spot. Since then, Elephant Falls has become more and more popular among domestic and foreign tourists. This place is especially beautiful for those who are passionate about backpacking, conquering and discovering natural beauty and getting to know new countries.

How to go to DaLat Elephant Waterfall?

Getting to the tourist area of Elephant Waterfall is relatively easy from the center of Dalat city. Your journey is approximately 25 kilometers long. But most of the roads are flat and not rough. First, drive from Lam Bien Square to Hoang Van Thu Road. Drive all the way down this road to Cam Ly. Follow the main road from here. Go to the intersection between Cam Ly and DT725. 

Turn left onto DT725 and continue for approximately 20 km towards Gia Lam, Lam Ha. Drive another 3 km back through Lam Ha Market. Turn right at Gia Lam intersection. Walk 50 meters and look left. Arrive at the elephant waterfall tourist area. Ask locals for directions. Rest assured that the locals here are very nice and friendly. They are eager to show you the way. 

Also for young people who like backpacking. Drive from Saigon to Dalat.  Highway 20 will take you to Duc Chong district in Lam Dong province. About 3 km past Lien Nghia Market. Here you can see his three big directions:

  • Going to Da Lat by 2 lanes highway
  • Going to Da Lat by road
  • Direction to Dak Lak - Dak Nong

Select direction Dak Lak - Dak Nong  and  drive for about 10 km. Look to your right and you'll see a sign directing you to Nam Ban, Lam Dong. Continue for about 10 km, cross two bridges and ask for directions to Elephant Falls where a third bridge is within 200 meters. 

Previously, to reach the Elephant Waterfall, one had to turn along the Plaeng Path from Lien Cuong to Dak Lak to Lam Ha district and then  to Nam Bang. Now, to get to Elephant Waterfall from Da Lat city center, you need to go through Ta Nung Pass to  Elephant Waterfall Tourist Area in Nam Bang.

In contrast to the tourist area in Dalat city center, the ticket price is relatively high. The ticket price is good for the elephant waterfall tourist area.

The attractive beauty of Dalat Elephant Waterfall

It is recommended to bring a jacket if you plan to come  here as the temperature drops considerably.

Some notes when visiting Elephant Falls

Enjoy a smooth and comfortable journey to Dalat Elephant Waterfall. Note some experiences below!

+ Visitors should go on a sunny morning. Avoid going in the evening or late afternoon as the DT725 road is very dangerous in the evening traffic.

+ Tourists should avoid the  ethnic vehicles traveling on this street. They often do not obey the law, so it is very dangerous because they drive at high speed. 

+ The water volume increases as you go upstream, so you can go even during the rainy season. At this time, the water in the waterfall also flows more powerfully and more beautifully. 

+ Visit Elephant Waterfall. Your priority is to wear non-slip, waterproof, and non-slip athletic shoes.Please refrain from high heels as the path to the falls can be very slippery.

+ Bring a light jacket to keep warm when visiting the basin.

+ Food: There are many good and reasonably priced restaurants around Elephant Falls. Like Com Viet restaurant, it sells delicious rice for VND25,000 to VND30,000 per plate. There is also a reasonably priced liquor store on the  premises of the waterfall, famous for its iced coffee with milk. All kinds of freebies are also sold here, such as special roasted coffee, artichoke tea, cocoa powder, strawberry jam... 

+ At the entrance of the sightseeing area, there is also a corner selling souvenirs and Nishiki gifts, so be sure to stop by.

+ You should bring your camera to capture meaningful moments with your friends and family. 

+ How to get to Elephant Waterfall - Linh An Pagoda: Walk from the center of Dalat to Feb 3 and follow Hoang Van Tu Road to Van Thanh Flower Village. Drive to Ta Nung Pass and continue for another 25 km to the town of Nam Bang. Elephant Waterfall is on the right.

In what season of the year should you go to Elephant Waterfall in Dalat?

Coming here during the rainy season can be  dangerous as the roads are slippery with moss and gravel. Visitors should bring a compact and handy umbrella or cover their belongings to avoid getting wet. The best time to come to Elephant Falls is during the dry season from January to April and avoid the rainy season from May to September.
