5 Best Places to Go Shopping in Hue

The best places to shop in Hue allow you to experience the local lifestyle, learn about the city's unique history and culture, and pick up interesting souvenirs.Local markets, art galleries , home to tailor shops,  is arguably one of the best cities in Vietnam to buy authentic handicrafts. Silk paintings, antiques and lacquerware are popular.

 The best time to visit Dong Ba Market is between 8am and 11am. Enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine such as pho, banh koai (stuffed omelet), and freshly baked spring rolls for breakfast.

2. Healing the Wounded Heart Hue

Healing the Wounded Heart Hue offers a wide selection of crafts, accessories and clothing made from recycled items. Founded in his 2009 by the NGO Spiral Foundation, this non-profit shop provides fair wages, health insurance, housing, daily sponsored meals, and recovery funds for disabled artisans in Hue. 

Some of the center's most unique items include plastic tote bags, traditional baskets handwoven from bamboo, and food wrappers and photo frames made from recycled beer cans.  Healing the Wounded Heart Hue is located along Vo Thi Sau Road, a 10-minute walk from Truong Tien Bridge.

4. New Space Art Foundation

New Space Art Foundation is an independent art gallery owned by brothers Le Duc Hai and Le Ngoc Thanh. Located on Pham Ngu Lao Street, the gallery occupies his two-story building with a beautiful courtyard, a lacquer and photography studio, and a gallery displaying a unique collection of  folk paintings. 

 

To expand the local art scene, the New Space Art Foundation frequently hosts dinner events, cook-alongs, and art exhibitions by emerging artists. One of his early installations, Bowls and Chopsticks, commemorates his 2 million Vietnamese who died of famine between 1944 and 1945. It features a bowl and red chopsticks lined up on the floor.

5. Tay Loc Market

Tay Loc Market caters primarily to Hue locals, but travelers have plenty of options for shopping and snacks. It's a 5-minute drive from Hue's imperial capital, where merchants sell fresh produce, household goods and clothing. 

 

The market has several stalls offering quality souvenirs such as conical hats and wood carvings. Bargain hard to get the best price. Head to Tay Lok Market in the morning (and on an empty stomach) for local delicacies like Banh Beo (steamed rice cakes), fresh spring rolls and Hue beef noodle soup.
